Well well well… This week was a cool one! Basically, our
weekly planning sessions have been basket-case-like because we have been trying
to be creative with our finding activities. But I KNOW that when we do our best
Heavenly Father leads us to who is ready. Here's how this week went down.
Last week, Thursday, weekly planning. We are about sick of
not finding anyone, so we made the goal that we would follow EVERY SINGLE
PROMPTING this week with faith that we would be lead to someone who was ready.
Fast forward to this week. We did our usual daily activities following small
promptings. One day we got a call from one of our former investigators who
needed her driveway shoveled. We went and did it, and on our way home, sister
Young made a wrong turn (she does that a lot) 😉 the light turned green and we had to turn
left into restaurant parking lots. As we were passing Fiesta Burrito I looked
over and the spirit hit so strong as I looked into the restaurant. Not because
I have an extra love for Street Tacos (the truest), but because there was a Hispanic
family sitting in it and they needed to hear our message! I kinda was freezing
from shoveling so much, and the car was just starting to warm up... it would
have been easy to keep going, but 1) I love Mexican families and 2) we would
never find people to teach if I pick and choose what promptings to follow no matter
how inconvenient. So I said "turn
around! We have to talk to this family!" We flipped around and pulled in…
eyeing them from our car.... "sooooo.... We are gonna just go in and say “hey,
we were watching you eat, we want to talk to you...?" "No, silly… we will just ask them what's good and go
from there!" Well. We walk in and ask the mom what was good to eat and
obviously she said the Tacos. We started telling them about how we were
missionaries and introduced the Book of Mormon. It was Maria and Ramiro, their
two boys and little girl. She is Catholic and he is Christian. They just went
to a Lutheran wedding and decided they didn't know WHAT church they wanted...
all they knew is that they wanted a good place where their kids could
"learn about Jesus." We showed them the Because of Him video and
explained our purpose inviting them to learn more and they said "wanna
come to our apartment next friday?" WHAT. PEOPLE, PROMPTINGS ARE REAL.
they ended up being just out of our ward boundaries but we are sending over the
Spanish Elders, and it is going to be so great!
Another experience from following promptings:
We were making stop bys and trying to catch our potential
investigators. We go down the road and Sister Young goes "dang it we have
to knock on that brick house..." We flip around and I'm like "YES GO
SISTER YOUNG!" It was like that until we got TO the "house." At
first it looked like a regular huge Naperville house... as we drove down the
little dead end street where is was however, it got Longer, and longer, and
bigger, and huger..... til BAM. THERE'S THE DOOR. HAAAAAAAAAAAA. So… we
knocked. We braced ourselves and did it... no one answered. I don't know if it
was because no one was home, or because our pounding can't be heard through the
thick wood... but we were able to go across the street and give a book of
Mormon to a man named Rich. Rich is a weirdo. He invited us right in "come
in come in come in!" He has the strangest way of thinking... explaining to
us that maybe "men have that void in their hearts that needs to be filled
and they fill it with this concept of Jesus instead of lifting and helping
each other...." he went on and on and was all over the map. He had studied
every religion under the sun, super smart, and literally using all his information
he has gathered to spin around and around in circles until he is so dizzy he's
quirky. Hmmmm :) nonetheless, we gave him a Book of Mormon and had a really
great conversation, bearing our testimonies and telling him he would never know
unless he tried. It felt good. Then we talked to a whole bunch of Muslims for
the rest of the day. :)
We were able to go to Feed My Starving Children (MY fav
place ever), tract, go on exchanges, slip on everything on the earth because of
freezing rain, and get our transfer call. I'M GOING TO BLOOMINGTON! Really I
don't know much about it other than it's in Timbucktu and possibly a university
town for Illinois State... I'm white washing the area with a sister I came out
with as Sister training leaders. IT'S GOING TO BE SO FUN! I am the saddest to
leave Sister Young, but she is staying in the area and training a new
missionary and will be so great! Basically a whole bunch of people I love just
need to come home and live with me, so watch out mom and dad. :)
I love my mission. What a comfort we have knowing to gospel!
I love what President Monson said when he says "may we ever choose the
harder right than the easier wrong." What wise council from a wise
prophet. We were so blessed to have him while he was here. This week has proven
his statement to be true. Was it the easiest thing in the world to flip around
and get out from being freezing to talk to the little Mexican family? No. Was
it easy to knock on the huge house? I wish! Has a mission been easy? HAHAHA. But
the fruits of doing those things completely out weighed the challenge of them.
So do challenging things! Because you can! I love you all so much!
Love, Sister Bair
